Professional Teaching Dispositions

Comfortable Dispositions:

One dispositional area I feel very comfortable with is Initiative and Dependability. I naturally seek out solutions, take personal responsibility, and go beyond what is expected, which has helped me stay organized and prepared in both my teaching and academic work. Being proactive and adaptable also comes naturally to me, making it easier to navigate unexpected challenges in the classroom.

Another area where I feel confident is Ethical Behavior and Integrity. I highly value honesty, responsibility, and respect for confidentiality. I believe integrity is essential for building trust with students, families, and colleagues, and I work hard to model these values daily.

Area for Growth:

One area I would like to focus on improving is Effective Communication. While I communicate professionally and respectfully, I recognize there is always room to refine how clearly and succinctly I deliver messages, especially when adapting communication for different audiences like young students, parents, and administration.

Connection to Professional Goals:

Strengthening these dispositions will directly support my professional goals of becoming a high school art teacher and eventually teaching at the college level. Being dependable and ethical builds the strong professional reputation necessary for leadership roles, while improving my communication skills will help me advocate for my students, collaborate effectively with colleagues, and confidently contribute to the broader educational community. Mastering these dispositions will also help me better create an inclusive, responsive learning environment where all students can thrive.
