Thompson Valley High School
Loveland, Colorado

Through EDUC 485B: Student Teaching Secondary, I completed my capstone experience at Thompson Valley High School. Thompson Valley is home to the Eagles and is known for its commitment to empowering lifelong learning through strong academics, creative opportunities, and a supportive school culture. The school’s #TVSTRONG values—Strength, Teamwork, Respect, Open-mindedness, Nobility, and Goal setting—are evident throughout both classroom learning and extracurricular involvement.

Under the mentorship of Major Chisholm, I taught Photography I, II, and III, Video Production I and II, Podcasting I and II, and Graphic Design I. Thompson Valley’s robust media arts program provided students with meaningful ways to express themselves while building digital literacy and creative confidence. The school's emphasis on academic excellence, including its wide selection of Advanced Placement courses and recognition in national rankings, fosters a culture where students are challenged and supported.

This environment helped me grow both professionally and personally. I developed skills in managing multiple course preparations, adapting instruction to meet a range of student needs, and facilitating authentic engagement through student-centered projects. The experience deepened my belief in the power of creativity and choice in the classroom and affirmed my commitment to creating inclusive, dynamic learning spaces where students feel empowered to explore, reflect, and connect their learning to the world around them.
