Range View Elementary, an IB World School
Severance, Colorado
During EDUC 485A: Student Teaching Elementary, I taught Kindergarten through 5th grade visual arts at Range View Elementary in Severance, Colorado. As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, Range View is committed to inspiring internationally minded citizens who are inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring. Under the guidance of my mentor, Sherri Jones, I created art lessons rooted in inquiry and global perspectives, encouraging students to explore their creativity while thinking critically about the world around them.
Teaching across all elementary grade levels gave me valuable experience managing a fast-paced classroom and differentiating instruction to meet a wide range of developmental needs. I saw firsthand how Range View’s vision—that collaborative effort generates growth for all—shaped every part of the school culture. The staff’s focus on building community, fostering professionalism, and maintaining a safe learning environment allowed students to thrive both academically and emotionally.
This placement strengthened my belief in the importance of nurturing classrooms where students feel respected, empowered, and supported. It reminded me why I teach: to spark curiosity, build confidence, and foster global citizenship through the arts. I look forward to carrying these values with me into every future teaching environment I join.
